Re: what do you call your archival storage?



<<Let me explain:  our university is actually the site of an old psychiatric
institution -- the largest this side of the Mississippi, in fact -- and the
new library (to be built in approx. 4 years) will be in and among the old
medical hospital -- which is, of course, complete with morgue!!>>

Slightly before my time, the Maine State Archives used the old Maximum
Security Building (the one that for many earlier years housed the criminally
insane, so designated by the courts that committed them) at the Augusta
Mental Health Institute as its off-site "records center" storage facility.
I understand some staff members did not wish to be there after dark...?

I've also heard old-timer tales about the elevator shaft in the Capitol
Building, the Bull Barn (a vacated artificial insemination for bovines
facility), and the blockhouse.  Did I miss anything in the way of
"interesting records storage facilities we have known," fellow Maine State
Archives readers?

And what do you mean, it's only Wednesday???
