I'm not sure how helpful this is - since if such an offer were made to us,
we would gladly accept a faculty member's academic regalia for our
university archives, in spite of our space constraints. Around graduation
time, our library works up a display of graduation-related items -
mortarboards, tassels, hoods and diplomas - and a few of those items are
borrowed from the archives.

Is your alumni office a possibility? I suspect our alumni office would also
accept such an offer - they have a wonderful collection of memorabilia which
they use for displays. Visiting alumni really enjoy them, and we all like to
keep our alumni happy.

Good luck.

List,

An alumna, the daughter of an emeritus faculty member, has offered our
archives her father's academic regalia. This does not fit any of our
collections. I have not replied to the offer. Nor do I have a good
suggestion for a suitable (or obvious) recipient.

Frankly, the only place on campus that might accept such garments is the
theater department. It occurs to me that if this is suggested, it might
sound like the next best thing to a thrift shop (no matter how adroitly the
suggestion is made).

Can someone on the list suggest a good alternative?

Thanks,
