archives design - floor load

Thank you to all those who responded to my question. The general consensus
is that 50 pounds per square foot is woefully inadequate, but I'm still ISO
alternative figures. Most of what I've looked at, including the NARA &
ARMA websites, say something like "the facility should have an adequate
floor load for the needs of the archives." The concrete figures I've seen
are for 150 p.s.f. or 300 p.s.f.

Peter K. suggested talking to space-saver shelving people, who would have
information about the floor loads necessary for their product. Several
people have also suggested checking with library-design materials/manuals,
which include more specific figures - we seem fated to be linked to
libararies!

I can post further results here, which will give us some of the OAC that
Dennis is so fond of, or people can contact me off-list if they're
interested in following the space saga - or if they have design figures
they'd be willing to share.

thanks again,
Lisa
