Tom, I am delighted to have the opportunity to providing info to you in light of the rapid response the Senate web master gave to my on-line questions last month when I was looking for Marilyn Carlson Nelson and J.W. Marriott, Jr.'s testimony before two different Congressional committees.
In January, I was contacted by a gentleman by the name of John Yokley with regards to creating digital access to an out of print hospitality industry publication and the ability to have searchable capabilities. John represents a company called PTFS. Information is available from their web site at www.ptfs.com They have impresive technology, but outside my budget at this time. John's telephone number is 301.654.8088.
Progressive Technology Federal Systems, Inc. (PTFS) is a leading systems integration company that specializes in digital archiving, content digitization, and library services and solutions. We offer integrated turnkey systems as well as on-site and off-site professional services such as archives digitization, back file conversion, consulting, and staffing services. Since our inception in 1995, we have served over one hundred libraries, archives, and organizations in government and commercial sectors throughout the United States.
Our core business is centered around building digital libraries and digitizing archival collections. Unlike digital conversion service bureaus, we provide turnkey capture, creation, workflow, archival, and retrieval solutions. Our combined expertise in information systems, library science, document and records management, and digitization technologies for all types of materials sets us apart from "generic" service bureaus. This "total solution" experience allows us to understand all issues and intricacies associated with specialty digitization and archiving projects.
History Associates uses a program to provide their archival clients with searable access to all of the clients correspondence files and printed materials. I saw a demonstaration of it a few years ago during a workshop/meeting of Business Archivists. It too was impressive, but I don't know what the software is.
Please let the list know what you decide to use. Best wishes, Cathleen
