Re: Research Collections and ILLs

I can second this. Our ILL department keeps records on in-coming and
out-going requests for journal articles to make sure they do not exceed
either the maximum number of times one article can be copied in a year, or a
maximum number of articles from one journal. That maximum number, as I
understand it, is a generally accepted number which was considered "safe" as
determined by librarians who addressed this issue through their professional
organization.

Some shops allow the customer to do all his/her own photocopying, including
the National Archives main reading room in Washington, D. C. If the
customer is dropping in the dime and pushing the button themselves, are they
responsbile for their actions?

Assuming the answer to the above is "no," I can only suggest we all hire Mr.
Bookman (the library cop from Seinfeld) to hang out around the copy machine
and bust these crimminals!
