Probably not; the wood will still off-gas pollutants into the air.  Sealing
the wood with two or three coats of polyurethane is one option.

Just a quick question regarding lining wooden shelves with Mylar.  Would
this be a solution in keeping acid from the wood leaking into archival
boxes?
