Book cleaning...

Hello all,

We recently had some books donated to our historic home for our education
collection, in other words, 19th cent.period books to sit on our book
shelves for looks, but not to be preserved forever for our permanent
collection. These books need some basic repairs (covers torn off, etc.)
and cleaning (signs of mold/mildew growth) before going on our shelves. I
have been given the job of cleaning them up enough to keep the mold and
mildew from spreading. My question is this: What is the easiest, cheapest
way to clean these up, keeping in mind that they are not permanent
collection pieces? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Adrienne Marrah-Program Assistant for Museum
