St. Jerome

In a couple recent threads, patron saints for archivists and librarians were
discussed. St. Jerome, with a manuscript in hand, can be found on plate #11
in "Bright Earth" by Philip Ball. It is a recent book about how dyes and
pigments were manufactured by early artists. A laborish chore at best.
Glorious color plates in this book. Per the write-up, Masaccio and Masolino
were the incredibly gifted artists of this work which shows St. Jerome in a
vermilion robe, manuscript or book in one hand, a small model of a church in
the other, and a lion at his feet. His headdress is quite
different....looks somewhat Spanish. He is indeed a striking figure.
