RAINdrop
Ground broken for center at Roosevelt library
HYDE PARK -- He had been discarded as a
dreamer. His liberal views ended his tenure as
vice president when Harry Truman was selected
during the 1944 Democratic convention. But
Henry Wallace has again found a place next to
President Roosevelt.
Wallace was vice president during FDR's third
term from 1941-1944 and secretary of agriculture
during FDR's first two terms. Now his influence
has been honored with the Henry A. Wallace
Visitor, Education and Conference Center at the
Franklin D. Roosevelt Library.
About 250 people attended the official
groundbreaking in the lingering chill Sunday. Speakers included state
parks
Commissioner Bernadette Castro and U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey,
D-Saugerties.
