Q: Why do you need space... everything is online now...

Our small university soon will be adding a new building, and thus everyone
is scrambling in our current building for the departments that aren't moving
to receive more space. Consistently in the past, the library has had space
taken away. We've had several new additions to the library this year
(including the Archives) and a few things that are in the works that will
increase our need for space.

Unfortuantely, it appears that the committee in charge of space allocation
thinks (yet again) that the library has TOO MUCH space.

The main argument appears to be "Everything is online now, so when is the
library going to give space back for use as classrooms!"

We've all been asked to brainstorm for responses to the committee'[s
multiple questions about taking space away from the library (responses that
can be vocalized anyway....).

Anyone already dealt with this successfully and will you please share your
tips?

Thank you!

ps - thankfully no one has suggested taking space from the Archives, since
we don't have any room for growth anyway. We just added four aisles of
compact shelving to deal with our next delivery of 1800 linear feet from
JSC/NASA.
