You're right Rebecca. We wouldn't do anything without the approval of our
conservation people. But there are ways of coding things without direct
attachments. A label on a string with a bar code could be attached, for
example, carefully to the end of a carpet and then slipped
underneath. Furniture could probably be marked on the underside. Sticky
labels straight on would probably be the exception rather than the rule.
