Andersen's Document Policy at Issue
By C. Bryson Hull

try and convince jurors in its obstruction of justice trial that the accounting firm's
record keeping policy was sound business practice and not intended to destroy
compromising Enron documents.

By KRISTEN HAYS, Associated Press Writer

As Trial Nears End, Andersen Case Proves to Be Trickier Than Thought
By JONATHAN WEIL and ALEXEI BARRIONUEVO
HOUSTON -- This was supposed to be a slam dunk for the government.
To win a conviction against Arthur Andersen LLP, prosecutors merely had to prove that one of the firm's people had tried to persuade another to destroy documents pertaining to Enron Corp.
so that the Securities and Exchange Commission couldn't get its hands on them. Even before Andersen's criminal obstruction-of-justice trial began, the man who'd been the firm's top Enron auditor, David B. Duncan, had pleaded guilty to doing just that.
Case closed? Not quite.

Prosecutor: Andersen shredded in preparation for 'Enron wars.'
By KRISTEN HAYS, Associated Press Writer
HOUSTON - Arthur Andersen LLP's scramble to shred Enron Corp.-related documents as dictated by its internal policy was a calculated effort to prepare for lawsuits and criminal probes, a federal prosecutor said. Defense lawyers countered that the indictment was handed down without any proof or investigation.

Andersen's Shredding Trial Wraps Up
BY JEF FEELEY
BLOOMBERG NEWS
HOUSTON -- Arthur Andersen LLP employees shredded Enron Corp. audit documents late last year knowing they would soon receive a federal subpoena, prosecutors said in closing arguments in the accounting firm's criminal trial.
"Andersen apparently thought it had a window of opportunity here" to trash records, prosecutor Sam Buell told jurors. Auditors were "running around irresponsibly destroying documents," he said.
