Re: gift appraisals

We've had several instances where our University Foundation
paid the costs of appraisal for a gift coming to the University.
For example, say a donor wishes to donate a sailboat. Certainly,
the University can't give him a value (as the recipient) but the
University will pay for an appraisal....both for the donor's benefit
as well as the University's when we have to calculate value of
gifts, insurance, etc.

I don't see a problem with whom pays the appraisal costs, so long
as it is independent and shared with both parties.
