OT, it seems - Oral History Equipment
Don't mean to distract all from the Coke conversation (frankly, the sugar
beet digression demonstrated once again how incredibly knowledgeable, if
obscure, we can be), but I have an actual archives question.
A sudden call from one of the higher-ups has induced me to move ahead with
my plans for reviving our OH program, and I think I've settled on a recorder
(Marantz PMD 222, FWIW), but I'm completely asea as far as the microphone
choice. I got the impression from another contact that the lapel mikes are
less intimidating to a subject, but she suggested they might be a few
hundred dollars, and all the ones I've seen are less than $50. Perhaps I'm
confusing lavalier with lapel, but they seem to be one & the same.
So, in short, if anyone has any suggestions for appropriate external mikes
for oral history, I'd appreciate the info. (Yes, I have searched the
archives of both our list & H-Oralhist, but I'm not getting an answer simple
enough for my poor tired brain.)
