Re: beaver board?

I know about Beaver Board in the context of houses -- the material I know of
is about 1/2" thick and was used as a wall board before the advent of
drywall. There was a Beaver Board Company (historic stock certificates
still available on-line) so they may have manufactured more than one
material.

My 1929 house still has some original walls of Beaver Board. It's a pressed
fiber board, somewhat soft, and has some flex to it. I expect the fibers
are acidic, but I don't actually know what material it is made out of. You
might try your State Historic Preservation Office or local historic
preservation group.
