GW Announces Advance Records Management Course, August 20-21, 2002



George Washington University's Center for Professional Development Announces
course CWRM 864: Advanced Records Management
Location: Washington DC 
Dates: August 20-21, 2002 (Tuesday/Wednesday)
from 8:30-4:30pm each day.

This course reviews the most important
elements of managing both physical and electronic records in organizations.
The seminar begins with a discussion of the new paradigms that are currently
revolutionizing both the theory and practice of records management. Then,
new industry standards and best practices relevant to records management are
reviewed.  The heart of the course is a detailed discussion concerning many
of the key practices in advanced records management: electronic records
retention, the management of e-mail, differentiation between electronic
recordkeeping systems and document management systems, and primary issues
for the preservation of digital records.  A brief overview of recordkeeping
systems is offered, and file management and indexing issues at an enterprise
level are presented. In addition, vital records issues that impact the
control, storage, and retrieval of records are illustrated. The seminar
concludes with a discussion of knowledge management and its relationship to
records management as a key strategy for enterprise records management.

6) The need to team with records creators for records management to be
successful.
7) Basic level organizational factors and decisions affecting what software
to select for recordkeeping.
8) The unique issues and dangers associated with e-mail management.
9) How to work with IT personnel in establishing RIM Programs.
10) Hot topics/future trends to consider when establishing high quality
Records Management Programs.
