MOUNT AUBURN CEMETERY

ARCHIVIST POSITION AVAILABLE

Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA, seeks a
trained and experienced archivist.  Founded in
1831 as the nation's first garden cemetery, Mount
Auburn is an internationally renowned cultural
landscape and active cemetery listed on the
National Register of Historic Places. Working
cooperatively with the Curator, Assistant Curator
and staff of the Historical Collections
Department, Archivist will manage the official
business records dating from 1831.
Responsibilities include creating archival
policies and procedures, accessioning, arranging,
describing, preserving and administering the
Cemetery records, in addition to other acquired
document collections.

Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science
from an ALA-accredited institution and/or an MA
with a concentration in archives management; 3-5
years' management experience in an archives or
manuscript collection; experience with 19th
century record keeping; and thorough knowledge of
archives theory, methods and accepted practices.
Experience with application of technology to
archives management and access systems, excellent
communication and interpersonal skills, and strong
organizational abilities required. 16 hours per
week beginning August 2002. Competitive salary.
