SENIOR RECORDS ANALYST

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate University Archivist for Records Management,
this position is responsible for providing records management services to
University offices for records in all formats, but with a primary focus
on  electronic records.  The incumbent will serve as a member of the
Records Management Office (RMO) and may supervise other professionals and
support staff.  As a senior member of the Harvard University Archives
staff, the incumbent will provide expert guidance to support the appraisal,
acquisition and preservation of University and other records in electronic
format.  The incumbent will:

A. Evaluate record keeping practices and systems in University offices.
B. Analyze and appraise records in all formats.
  a.  Develop criteria for selection of electronic records determined to
be of enduring value.
  b.  Develop or supervise development of records schedules for University
records in all formats.
C. Develop standards, policies and procedures for the management and
preservation of electronic records and provide guidance to University offices.
  a. Provide guidance for University offices for preservation and access
to their operational electronic records.
  b. Develop standards and procedures for accessioning electronic records
into the Archives.
  c. Prepare custody and access protocols governing management of
electronic records with archival value.
  d. Develop feasibility and cost analyses for preservation of electronic
records.
D. Provide guidance and assistance for offices in developing, implementing
and improving record keeping systems and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:   Master's degree in information science, information
management, archival studies or related discipline or an equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience.  CRM desirable.
Experience:  Three years professional experience in records management,
preferably in a university setting.  Experience in files management,
functional analysis of records systems, and appraisal and scheduling of
records is required. The incumbent must demonstrate information technology
expertise, and be familiar with the issues and principles of electronic
records management, and preservation of and long-term access to electronic
records.  Experience appraising and scheduling electronic records is
required.  Experience implementing electronic document or records
management systems preferred.
Skills and Abilities:  Strong knowledge of computer systems, automated
records management, electronic archives, and control of electronic
documents.  Must be familiar with metadata standards and requirements for
preservation and long-term access to information resources.  Knowledge of
EAD and XML desireable. Knowledge of archival appraisal, storage and
management.  Strong analytical and communication skills and active
client-service orientation are essential.   Must demonstrate a knowledge of
curent trends in business and library electronic preservation issues and
technology.  Must demonstrate an ability to manage a variety of projects
and tasks in a complex and dynamic environment, work in high pressure
situations, and work effectively at all levels of the University community.
