Re: printing cuts in a university archives



Two university repositories I worked in had boxes of these things, and as you attest, there is absolutely no use for them.  You have the printed matter.  Archivists have a really, really hard time throwing them away though--something about all that wood and metal.  I've heard all the justifications for keeping them--"we'll use them in an exhibit", "they might reprint the book".  It ain't gonna happen.  The only justifications I can see for keeping them are if the printed matter no longer exists, or if they were never printed and the images are highly desirable.  Otherwise, they are simply very heavy, bulky occupants of valuable space.
