I picked some
of these up from my college when they were cleaning out a few years ago as well,
along with a large wooden chest of type. However, don't just pitch
them. A fairly large number of people are collecting these now, depending
on the condition and subject matter. If you do not want them, you might
inquire with an area antique dealer or an experienced E-Bay
seller. >>> "Schmid, Peter" <PSchmid@PROVIDENCE.ORG> 08/22/02 04:08PM >>> Two university repositories I worked in had boxes of these
things, and as you attest, there is absolutely no use for them. You have
the printed matter. Archivists have a really, really hard time throwing
them away though--something about all that wood and metal. I've heard all
the justifications for keeping them--"we'll use them in an exhibit", "they might
reprint the book". It ain't gonna happen. The only justifications I
can see for keeping them are if the printed matter no longer
exists, or if they were never printed and the images are highly desirable.
Otherwise, they are simply very heavy, bulky occupants of valuable
space. **************************************************************************** This message is intended for the sole use of the individual and entity to whom it is addressed, and may contain information that is privileged, confidential and exempt from disclosure under applicable law.
