Mark, if you think you can demonstrate that ANASTHNAI in Lk 24:7
really means "stand again," go ahead and do so. But if you want to
convince me, you're going to have to show on the basis of usage of the
verb ANISTAMAI in the GNT or elsewhere in extant ancient Greek
literature. The usage of ANWQEN with GENNHQHNAI, however interesting
it may be in its own right, does not seem to me to have any probative
value with regard to the question of the meaning of the prefix ANA- in
ANASTHNAI, which I continue to think means "up." I readily concede
that ANASTAUROUNTAS in Heb 6:6 means "recrucifying" or "crucifying
again"; I don't hesitate to concede that the prefix ANA- in some
contexts is equivalent to the Latin RE- prefix or to the adverb
"again" -- but I don't think for that reason there's any need
whatsoever to suppose that ANA- in ANASTHNAI has the sense "again."
Hard-headed I may well be, but I continue to think that arguing for a
sense of "stand again" rather than "stand up" for ANASTHNAI in Lk 24:7
on the basis of evidence of other adverbs meaning "again" or usage of
the prefix ANA- in verbs other than ANISTAMAI is comparable to fishing
for salmon in a trout pond. That's what I mean by "being drawn aside
by diversionary issues."
