Once more- it has nothing to do with respect. In Hebrew the name of the
city is Yerushalayim (dual ending for those unfamiliar with Hebrew). In an
effort to reproduce this sound, Greek writers used the plural (because they
have no dual ending).

Its really just that simple. No mystery. No respect. No deep theological
profundity.
