Last week someone on this network or "graze-L" had a question about a weed 
network.  I've lost track of the original question, but here's the info on 
the weed network for whoever is interested.

       The purpose of this interactive e-mail group is to foster an
informal exchange about anything to do with weeds, their biology, ecology,
management and importance.  The initial group is small (22), primarily
M.I.N.K. people in the NC US plus some selected other weeders.

WeedNet is a MAILLIST, any of us can send a message to:

                                                        weednet@iastate.edu

and it will automatically be sent to everyone on the list.  I can add,
delete members anytime (1 day delay in activation).  WeedNet is served by
our computer here at Iowa State University.  WeedNet is experimental in the
sense that it is not apparent what group dynamic will occur (its all up to
us).

Use of flowering of the forsythia bush, is any correlation between its
blooming and crabgrass germiniation.  Has anyone heard of similar
biological indicators for predicting germination of agronomic weeds.  Bob

Has anyone worked with an elutriator for seed cleaning, specifically the 
Gillison 4- or 8-chamber model (a root cleaning machine, adapted for seed

What temperature a homeowner could heat seeds to prevent germination in the

GPS equipment, straight answers on exactly what we need. We're looking for
a hand-held unit with an accuracy of 1-2 meters. Does anyone out there have
any experience with Trimble products, or have any other suggestions.  Bob

Comparing responses of weeds (in corn) to point injection of fertilizer
versus conventional dry broadcast fertilization.  Specifically, information
on:  1. Use and applications of point injection of fertilizer with rolling
spoke injectors.  2. Applications of point injection of fertilizer in
conservation tillage systems.  3. Crop and weed responses to fertilizers
applied by point injection.  William Akey                  

Heteroskedasticity:  If you have several data sets, you may wish to combine
them, or do 
statistics to compare them.  The problem is that the variation within each
data set will differ.  If some data has a lot of variation and other sets
have a little, you have heteroskedasticity.  For linear regression, there
are many ways to detect if this is a problem and established methods to
correct it.  But I have not been able to find published solutions to the
problem for NONLINEAR regression.  Milt McGiffen

Wild proso millet, shattercane, woolly cupgrass: prototype for a seedling
emergence model for wild proso millet based on lab data. We have one year
of field data.  Predictions and observations match nicely.  However, we
need one other year of field validation data to be sure the model is
working correctly.  Anybody have such data?   Frank Forcella

Spatial distribution of weeds and mapping of fields: maps of seedling
emergence and maps of the soil seed bank.  Unanswered questions:  what
scale of land area is appropriate to each of these types of information. 
Dave's maps in Nebraska:  scale varies with the numbers of weeds per unit
area:  the lower the numbers the larger the scale of sampling needed.  Our
foxtail spp. seed bank prediction of emergence:  what scale is appropriate
