I inarched a sucker coming up from below the girdled area (evidently the 
damage occurred over a year ago, and as I had no time to do anything with 
the apples last year, I hadn't noticed until a month or so ago) this 
morning, and put in a bridge with a good, limber twig collected from 
another tree in the orchard.
Some of the early crabs are starting to unfurl blossom clusters, so I may 
be a bit late on collecting dormant scions to serve as bridges for 
placement later in the season, but I cut several this morning anyway.  Have 
waxed them and stuck them in the cooler here at work to hold until things 
get growing a little better.
