Re: [compost_tea] Backpack Sprayer Comments for Novice Applicator
Small scale practitioners with limited resources and a small client list co=
uld use a backpack sprayer, I suppose.
I've used a Wilson and seen a Solo backpack sprayer used for tea, we switch=
ed over to a small tractor towed 25 gallon sprayer a couple of years ago, l=
ittle Agri-Fab thing---sprayer works fine, the tires are cheap and stupid, =
though, needing inner tubes.
As others have mentioned, backpack sprayers are heavy and not always well p=
added, if you are a hoss (sturdy backpacker sort) this won't be too much of=
a problem.
Key is keeping tea fresh and delivering it quickly where it is needed. Some=
of the aquarium pumps for 12 volt could be useful if you have a day's wort=
h of spraying and need to keep a barrel of tea aerated in the truck between=
jobs.

If you are performing tea on a commercial basis, I cant imagine using a b=
ack pack sprayer it is going to cut into your hourly return per a man. I w=
ould purchase a small 50-100 gallon tank with a small diaphram pump.
You will be able to get more volume better coverage increase your rate pe=
r a man hour plus look much more professional to the client.
I would hang myself if I had to go around with a backpack sprayer, it jus=
t takes to long to do the full job.
