Hello,
I would think that the kind of wood you're using would make a big
difference, as some are more rot resistant.  In Oregon, we used
fire-charred Yew tree (which had been poached by others by the way; it's
endangered).  Cedars and redwoods are also anti-fungal.  What are you using
there in the tropics?
