HI . . .
I've been reading these postings about folks in the Carolinas just
getting their first Purple Finches and Pine Siskins--and
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds!--but had given up on winter finches here
at Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History near York SC.
Lo and behold, this morning I finally spied two purple Finches in a
pull-string trap and caught both. One was a raspberry-colored adult
male banded here as a brown bird (therefore, in his second year) on
19 January 1997.
I guess hope "springs" eternal for winter birds, even in mid-March.
Happy Birding,
BILL
