Snipe at Greenview

Dear Birders,

All that rain we had last week evidently washed out a small piece of the
beaver dam here at Greenview. The water level in the beaver impoundment has
dropped approximately 6" exposing a number of nice mudflats. Last night I
counted seven snipe sniping out there. The timing is good since we
generally get some nice shore birds at this time of year. Last year we had
a number of pectoral sandpipers.

I also counted six hooded mergansers, eight blue-winged teal, four
green-winged teal, four shovelers and a great egret last evening as sunset.

Greenview Pond is located on Blaney Franks Road, just west of Lake Wheeler,
in Raleigh North Carolina. In spite of the fact that it's just a small farm
pond and marsh, the Wake County Audubon Society has observed over 200
species of birds there over the years.

Birders are always welcome to park in front of our house and bird watch from
our property.
We live at 2429 Lullwater Drive overlooking Greenview Pond. It's a wheat
colored house with a triangular window facing the street and a boardwalk to
the front door.
