Hi all,
Never mind the forecast, if I set aside a day for birding, it will rain that
day.
I went out this morning for a brief jaunt to Stagecoach Road (SW Durham
County). YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS were singing from the tops of pine trees
by the road (as I loaned my phone to the rocket scientist who had decided
the drainage ditch would be a good place to try to turn around). Mostly I
saw pretty much regulars other than that, but I did get a great long look at
a BARRED OWL on his roost in a pine tree down the old railroad bed. Saw
nary a lep whilst I was out, wildflowers were limited mostly to wild
violets, but it was nonetheless very pleasant out, IMHO.
A new visitor to my yard (becoming a regular, 'twould seem) is a Mocker who
has discovered my Crabapple tree. I planted it last year, and aside from
the fact that I think it a lovely little tree, I've been waiting for some
bird to finally come munch on the fruit which has languished, neglected, all
Winter.
Happy Birding!
-Sandy
