Dear Carolina birders--here in Jones county near
Trenton,NC parulas were first heard/seen 3 30 and are
very numerous --lst white eyed vireo heard also on
3/31 but only one heard--no waterthrushes heard yet
although Wade Fuller tells me he heard one a week
ago--If parula warblers are committed to using spanish
moss here in the South for nesting it has to be
getting harder and harder for them to find it--many
people I know tell me how it is dwindling in SC and La
and I can se it for myself in NC.I have seen their
little cups in a clump and it doesn't take much but it
is definately seems to be decling---Various frog
species are being decimated too and I have heard the
ozone problem might be the cause of that.Anyone know
about Spanish moss?--My daughters pony seemed to
relish green tree frogs and would go to one on the
side of a barn with the same enthusiasm that it would
show towards a carrott--Deer Too? Coyotes are moving
in and I always thought the area around my home could
support a cougar or two but the automobile is one hell
of a deer predator!clancy ballenger
