C.birders,
Around dusk tonight, visited a small, private pond on Castleford Rd. in
Watauga Co. Had a pair of greater yellowlegs come in to give great looks
and vocalizations.
But the real thrill was the HUGE flock of sparrows, engorging themselves in
a muddy spot of patchy grass. No telling what all was in there, but we got
positive ids on vespers, fields, swamps, songs and lincolns.
Also had a purple finch and yellow-bellied sapsuckers (oh so yellow) at the
feeder at home, also in the Castleford road area.
