Congaree Swamp NM on 8 April

Caroline Eastman and I spent a couple of hours this morning walking around
the Boardwalk Loop at Congaree Swamp National Monument, Richland County, SC,
and had lots of spring arrivals. Most notable were a Swainson's Warbler
(heard singing from the Old Bluff Road bridge over Cedar Creek) and a
Northern Rough-winged Swallow over the visitors' center. The Swainson's
Warbler was a new early record for the park (by two days), and the swallow
is seldom observed in the park, although it is a common breeder along the
Congaree River.
