gr. crested flycatcher nest box

hi,

We've had great-crested flycatchers nesting in a box
for three years in a row (not counting this yr.--thus
far we've only heard them).

The box was originally put up to attract bluebirds and
was designed to do so. Bluebirds nested in it the
first year; then the next 3 yrs., the flycatchers. The
box is a bit unusual in that it does not have a round
entrance hole. The entrance hole is like a narrow
rectangle turned on its side. In other words, the
longest part of the rectangle runs horizonal, the
short ends are vertical. The hole is at the very top
of the front piece, not near the top , as a round hole
usually is. I can't recall where we got this box. We
have lots of starlings (blame them for running off
red-headed woodpeckers--they constantly harass our
red-bellieds), but these starlings have thus far never
bothered the flycatchers in this box. We only have a
few house sparrows here. Let me know if anyone needs
measrements, and we'll try to get them for you.
