Wannamaker Nature Preserve, Calhoun County, SC

This morning (21 April 2001) the Columbia Audubon Society's field trip to
the Wannamaker Nature Preserve (a property of the Charleston Natural History
Society) was a pleasant spring outing, but yielded few migrants. The
Wannamaker Preserve is in Calhoun County, SC, in the Upper Coastal Plain
near St. Matthews.

There were good numbers of the local breeding birds on hand, however,
including lots of Kentucky Warblers, Swainson's Warblers, and Louisiana
Waterthrushes. The habitat at Wannamaker is varied, including floodplain
forest, hardwood and mountain laurel bluff, oak-hickory forest, and old
fields in various stages of succession.

The field trip was lead by Steve Dennis.
