Saw and heard a yellow-breasted chat this AM - Monroe, NC. It was a lot
more active than I usually see later in the season.
Also I saw a flycatcher, one of the empidonax. I think it is an acadian
flycatcher. I have seen it every year for the past 4 or 5 years. I see
it in the low trees along a small stream and marshy area. It has a
white throat, white breast with a pale yellow wash down the sides.
There is no noticeable streaking. This morning it looked as if the top
of the head had a brownish green tinge to it, but the light could have
caused that. I hear it singing, but by the time I get back to the house
and my bird song CD, I cannot say for certain that it sounds like an
acadian.
