Only a handful Sunday.

Chimney Rock Park provided a nice Mother's Day morning last Sunday for my
wife, my mother-in-law and myself. From 9:00AM to 12:00PM we went on a
birdwalk along the Forest Stroll trail. We were pleased to see a few
Worm-eating Warblers, American Redstarts, a Black-and-White Warbler and at
least one Hooded Warbler seen, but many heard. One birder saw a Cerulean
Warbler.

Some observations: None of the "regulars" of Henderson County were on the
Sunday walk. We have excellent birders who live near CRP and they chose not
to be there. It certainly was a loss for new comers who appreciate any
opportunity to have help in hearing and seeing elusive warblers.

Today, Monday, May 14th, I was pleased to see a Lesser Yellowlegs, a
Solitary Sandpiper, and five Least Sandpipers in the small pond on the north
side of the athletic fields at Fletcher Community Park.

With the help of a recording I got an excellent look at an irate
Black-throated Green Warbler near the tunnel entrance bathrooms of Chimney
Rock Park this morning. I was fortunate enough to hear and see a
Yellow-throated Vireo also.
