cedar waxwings and shrikes

My husband and I are new enough to birding that many sightings
are new to us. I've seen postings indicating that cedar waxwing
sightings may be somewhat unusual in the Carolinas, so thought
I'd share this. We live outside of Moncks Corner, SC - about 40
miles from Charleston, and a mile from huge Lake Moultrie, in a
relatively rural setting (fields and woods).

During the last week in May, a flock of approx 15 cedar waxwings
roosted in the top branches of the highest live oak on our
property. They arrived around 5pm, and were still settled in
well after dark - gone the next morning.

In the past 3 weeks, we've also acquired at least 4 resident
loggerhead shrikes - a new shrike "sanctuary" is born!
