Hilton Pond 08/01/01 (Yellow-breasted Chat)

HI . . .

There are those among us who believe that birds know how to cuss. The
Yellow-breasted Chat just may be the champion at swearing, and this
species might be telling us something about vegetation and habitat
when it gets profane.

Doubt our sanity? Just visit
http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek010801.html and decide whether
chats and other animals are able to curse. And if you've ever
wondered how to differentiate male and female chats, there are two
diagnostic photos of a surprising sexual characteristic. This is a
direct link, of course, but please feel free to browse the rest of
the Web site. :-)

As usual, there are weekly totals for banded and recaptured birds,
including a couple of old-timer Northern Cardinals.

Happy Nature Watching,
