wood stork, mississippi kites

Spent a couple of days on the Cape Fear River this week between the mouth of
the Black River and Carvers. Most interesting bird was a soaring wood stork,
heading slowly upriver, about one mile north of Carvers in Bladen County on 8
August. There are several "families" of Mississippi Kites (about 1 mile
north of Carvers, and 1 mile southeast of Riegelwood) along the river and
occasional singles over the river at other locations. The kites do appear to
be increasing in this area, but I have seen them in the two areas referenced
above since the early 90s. Its not easy to get to these locations unless you
go by boat.
