Ocean Isle Beach Hawk Watch Oct.7

Birders,
After the passage of the strong front Saturday PM , Sunday brought brisk
north winds and bird-filled skies. I sat at the east end of Ocean Isle to
watch the raptors and passerines cross Shallote inlet from 9:30 to 12:00.
Among the constant stream of thousands of tree swallows were the following:

BALD EAGLE 4 adults
N. HARRIER 3
RED-TAILED HAWK 4
COOPER'S HAWK 2
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK 19
AM. KESTREL 29
MERLIN 3
OSPREY 25

Eastern Phoebes , common yellowthroats, indigo buntings, palm warblers and
flickers were the most represented of small landbirds. A few blue grosbeaks,
bobolinks, scarlet tanagers, baltimore orioles , black-throated blue
warblers, and magnolia warblers were also seen.
