Hilton Pond 11/08/01 (Juncos & Global Warming)

HI . . .

A trip to the Rio Grande Valley followed by Thanksgiving holidays has
thrown us off schedule on our installments of "This Week at Hilton
Pond."

Even though we're behind on our postings, the arrival of Dark-eyed
Juncos has reminded us that birds are better than calendars at
letting us know when winter has arrived.

For photos of and an essay about juncos and global warming, check out
the week of 8-14 November 2001 at
http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek011108.html . This is a direct
link, but feel free to browse the rest of the Web site. :-)

As always, there are weekly totals for banded birds--including some
rather surprising recaptures--plus dandy photos of Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker and Red-breasted Nuthatch.

Thanks in advance for forwarding this Hilton Pond message to other
folks interested in natural history. :-)

Peace, and Happy Nature Watching,

BILL
