White-winged Crossbills Continue

A group of about ten of us braved the 20-30 mph winds and mid 30
temperatures of Grandfather Mountain this morning to get great views of the
White-winged Crossbills. They feed in the trees for over an hour!! A group
of five Crossbills flew in about 9:15 am and didn't leave until about 10:20
am. It was a beautiful, clear morning on the mountain. At one point, we
could see the skyline of Charlotte some 85 miles away! After eating lunch
we headed down to Bass Lake at Moses Cone Park. Not much on the water, only
a pair of Ring-necked Ducks. The most unusual bird there was a partial
albino Song Sparrow. It was a great day!
