Folks,
I received a call this afternoon from Bob Olthoff who lives in
Waynesville/Haywood County, reporting a male Common Goldeneye on Lake
Janulska in Haywood County. Nothing could be further from the truth,
Goldeneyes are not at all common in the mountains of western North Carolina.
I ran up there and did manage to see the bird. It appeared to be the only
genetically sound member of the waterfowl family on the entire lake.
Regards,
Wayne
