continuation about ducks in south Raleigh

I went out earlier today to have another viewing opportunity of the scaup mentioned in my earlier posted message. The scaup had moved to the pond at the dairy unit (east side of Lake Wheeler Road) and the pond in the poultry unit (west side of Lake Wheeler Road). My parents were in Raleigh, so they were present too. The viewing conditions were very good, and the purple coloring on the heads of the male ducks was very visible (very nice). I still was uncertain about the head shape of the ducks, but there were "bumps" on the male ducks' heads. We did not go into the dairy unit, and, instead, parked on the shoulder of Lake Wheeler Road (probably not the best idea because of the large amount of traffic). Other duck species present were the same as my last message. But, new was the Cooper's Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk (each perched in a different tree at the dairy unit).

Has anyone seen Lake Raleigh recently? It is located on the Centennial Campus of NCSU (between Western Blvd and I-440). Last time I saw the lake was a year ago, and it was drained. Supposedly, a convention center or something similar was to be built around the lake. Maybe some ducks are there, but, most likely, the place will be too developed for birds.

If the Black-headed Gull at Lake Mattamuskett is still being seen, please let me know. I might make a trip out there next weekend. Hope everyone is seeing some good birds at the CBC meeting.
