Last owl post, I promise!



Sorry, me again.  This is just interesting.  Anyway, I reviewed 5 websites
on Snowy Owls.  Four used the term diurnal (highly diurnal, primarily
diurnal, etc.) when describing the Snowy Owls habitats.  The other was a
bit more precise.

It stated: "The snowy owl tends to be a solitary bird. Being a circumpolar
owl of the tundra, snowys are, of necessity, diurnal. Winter makes them
nocturnal, and they often fly south to the taiga forest regions where they
are crepuscular (dawn and dusk)."

Of course we are well south of the taiga region.  It appears that Snowies,
when given a preference, like to hunt during the day.  Another site
mentioned this may keep them from competing with other species that hunt at
night.
