RE: Tips for beginning birders



I agree with both messages on this topic. I found as a beginner that the
Stokes field guide was very helpful regarding factors in addition to
appearance, by pointing out the habitat in which the bird might be seen,
what it eats, how rare it is, and other things that supplement the
appearance factors when making an identification. I agree it is good to have
multiple field guides and I think it helps if Stokes is one of them.
