Peregrines

Friday morning I observed an immature Peregrine sitting on top of the
Bellsouth building on O'Henry St. in Asheville. There have been several
hanging around the city for most of the winter. There is also a Northern
Harrier that has developed a taste for Rock Doves. It will fly along below
the roof top level (below radar) then swoop up and snag a dove when they try
to take off. A neat little ambush trick. Between the Peregrines and the
Harrier the Rock Dove populations seems to be quite subdued this year.
