Rough-winged Swallow

Had my first non-Tree Swallow of the year Saturday at the NCSU diary unit
pond. A lone Northern Rough-winged Swallow braved the high winds on
occasion, but spent the majority of the time sitting on the (electric!)
fence wires.

The NCSU farms property is still closed to casual visitation, but
interested parties may obtain written permission from the field office on
Lake Wheeler Rd just south of the Inwood church.

There has been a change in access to the West Lake Rd. ponds. Previously
birders had tacit permission to walk along the shoreline to view the
wintering waterfowl. As of this past Friday public fishing is no longer
allowed and both ponds have been posted. Anyone birding this location
should remain on the road shoulder as opposed to entering the private
property.

Have a great week!
