sharp-shins in NC



Responding to Alan Kneidel's question in his most recent posting:

Also, are Sharp-shinned Hawks in the Charlotte area considered as year round
or winter residents?


Winter residents. The breeding range of Sharpies is generally 
considered to be north of NC, but there is at least 1, maybe a 
couple, of records of nestlings brought into the Carolina Raptor 
Center from NC nests, so some do nest here. But these are outliers to 
the main breeding range north of us.
