HBSP & Santee Coastal Reserve this weekend

What a time us Old North Staters had in the land of the Sandlappers this
weekend! The highly-sought-after Common Ground Dove was a bit too easy
almost, thanks to the feeders (also provided a Painted Bunting) at the new
education center at Huntington Beach State Park. Cool birds were aplenty! In
addition to the commonly seen coastal birds, Swainson's Warbler, Piping
Plovers, Worm-eating Warbler, Cattle Egret, and Purple Sandpiper also made
appearances at the park.

Thanks again to Gary Phillips for a second annual tour of Santee Coastal
Reserve and Santee River delta. A couple of folks got lifers in Bachman's
Sparrow, Red-cockaded Woodpecker, and Mottled Duck. Despite the heat and the
bugs, it was well worth it to see other species including Prothonotary
Warbler, Wood Stork, and Anhingas. If you can stand the heat and the bugs,
Santee Coastal Reserve is well worth adding to your plans when coming to the
SC coast.
